Why Grow Purple-Flowered Herbs?

If you are growing herbs for their foliage and flowers, you might also be considering growing herb with purple flowers. There are many reasons for this. Anise Hyssop is a well-known perennial herb with purple flowers that grows quite well in garden or backyard herb gardens. It is a perennial herb that needs to be planted from spring through late summer. The best time to plant it is during the height of summer when the ground is warm and the soil moist enough.

It will bloom between June and August. You should leave the flowers on the plant until they bloom again. When growing herbs for their foliage and blooms, you have to choose those with strong developing roots. Basil, chives, dill, coriander, sage, mint, Rosemary, thyme, tarragon, oregano, Rosemary, marjoram and basil are just some of the most popular and easy growing herbs for this purpose. Some can be seeded in the fall, others need to be planted right after the last frost.

If you live in an area that gets a lot of sunlight, it is advisable to plant your herb garden in pots. This will ensure that your herbs will get lots of sunlight and will get good growing conditions. You can choose containers that are made of metal, plastic, or clay. Clay pots are best if you live in an area that doesn’t get a lot of sunlight, but they do require more maintenance than some other options.

You should prepare the soil for planting herbs in late summer. In addition to making sure it has enough light, the soil should be well-drained. Most seeds have a tendency to not grow as well if they are compacted in soil with low water retention. So, you should use high-quality potting soil in your container. Water deep enough to make it feel like it is draining.

Your herb plants will also need to get the right conditions if you want them to grow well and produce good blooms. If you are growing them indoors, provide them with bright indirect light. Natural sunlight is the best for your plants.

You can move your herb if the weather gets cold, but you should only do so with extreme care. Just move your herbals to an area with better temperatures and a bit less sunshine. You can store your herb indoors in a refrigerator if it is necessary to move them during the colder months. Make sure they are not exposed to strong winds.

There are two types of Mediterranean herbs and they are the natives and the imported. The natives, which are mainly mints and thyme, were brought to the area by traders from the Middle East. They grow pretty well in Florida and have been in the United States for more than a thousand years. The imported types, which are mostly garlic, are brought to the area from Greece, Italy, Germany and France during the 1950’s.

If you are not sure which herb is your native variety, ask a garden center. A nursery may be able to guide you to better herbs for your garden. An herbalist at your local garden center can also help with identifying herbs that you are unfamiliar with. Your herb garden should bring you enjoyment for years to come.

There are many reasons to grow purple-flowered herbs in your garden. They grow quickly, they are easy to grow and they make a beautiful, decorative border. Mediterranean and other native plants come in all sorts of colors and shapes. You can create a beautiful display with several types. They add color and interest to any area where you want to focus on the practical. In a sunny spot along a walkway or patio, they will add to your decorating and make a perfect accent color.

Purple-flowered herbs are not bothered by insects and they don’t require much care. Most will need a three-foot trellis or a four-foot fence to keep them in. Most herb gardeners find that the best growing season is spring. When you are growing them in direct sunlight, it is best to place them in pots. Hanging baskets and tubs are also good choices. To encourage new growth, you can prune old plants often.
